In recent years, TPAO, Turkey′s national oil company has undertaken numerous oil and natural gas exploration projects, both onshore and offshore as part of its mission to develop domestic and international energy resources and to meet the continuously increasing demand for oil and gas in Turkey. Over the last 10 years, 90 % of geological surveys, 84 % of all geophysical surveys, and 59 % of the drilling, 71 % of oil production, and 56 % of natural gas production in Turkey were carried out by TPAO. In 2010, TPAO′s crude oil production was 12.7 MMbbl and its natural gas production amounted to 260.7 MMSCM. As of December 20, 2011, TPAO′s domestic production has been 36 Mbbl/d and TPAO′s overseas (Caspian Region) production is 26 Mbbl/d. Moreover, TPAO has signed agreements in order to carry out exploration, drilling, production and/or development activities in Iraq, Libya and Colombia.
